Rob is setting the rules as he gives Pam a bath.

Though she longed to cover herself, Pam remained still, naked and vulnerable before him as he bent and swiftly lifted her into his arms. She let out a gasp of surprise, which he completely ignored. Two steps later, he slowly lowered her into the steaming water, which turned her skin pink but wasn't hot enough to be painful. Just the way she liked it.

"Temperature okay?"

Pam returned his smile. "Perfect. How did you know?"

Lathering up a washcloth, he shrugged. "I set it at the heat level I prefer. Baths need to be steamy, or I don't feel clean, unless I'm already too warm. Then I want a shower. Rest your hands on the side of the tub while I see about getting you squeaky clean."

He started with her shoulders and chest, but, when he lowered his hands to her upper arms, she tried to pull away.

"No. We have rules tonight. What were your instructions?"

"I'm not to speak or move without your permission."

"Correct. Did I give you permission to withdraw your arm?"

"No, sir."

"Disobedience requires a consequence."

Pam met his gaze. He wasn't smiling but he didn't appear angry either. Rather than question or argue, she waited for his verdict.

"Draw your knees up and part your legs for me," he ordered. His voice, husky and smooth like expensive whiskey, went straight to her groin. Though the bathtub was long enough for two people, it wasn't unusually wide. However, when she drew her knees up, she was able to spread them without difficulty.

He promptly reached between her thighs and stroked. "You are not to move. Understand? Disobey me again, and you'll get a smack instead."

Pam clutched the sides of the tub as his wicked fingers began their erotic torture. Letting out a soft moan, she struggled to keep her eyes open and her body still. When the sensations grew too strong, she whimpered with her need to come.

Lessons in Love is Kathryn R. Blake's sixth novel with Blushing Books, and fifth spanking romance where Domestic Discipline is primary to the plot.  Although Kathryn is relatively new to the spanking romance market, she is not new to stories where the hero spanks the heroine.  In fact, most of her novels have some sort of spanking in them.  However, even in Kathryn's novels where the hero firmly believes in using spanking as a deterrent, he has no desire to cause the heroine injury and takes no delight in hurting the woman of his heart.  In fact, sometimes he finds it extremely difficult to follow through on his threats or promises.

To date, all of her heroes are dominant, alpha males who are extremely protective of the women they love.  However, part of that protectiveness includes the need for a certain amount of control.  They do not suffer defiance or disobedience lightly. Even so, these men aren't infallible, and they do make mistakes, but love and respect will always triumph in the end.

Kathryn has been a member of RWA since the early 1980s and has joined several local and special interest chapters. Besides writing, Kathryn enjoys traveling, reading, attending the theatre, and is a passionate lover of animals, so much so that in 2015 a stray cat adopted her. Philip followed Jack into the dining room and was quite surprised to see a lovely woman, a few years younger than him, sitting quietly and alone at the table.  Excerpt:  Crack! “Six!” She didn’t know if she could take any more of these awful punishing strokes. Jeremy was swinging the belt brutally hard and it was only her sheer force of will that was keeping her in position – Jeremy’s hand on her back was just resting there lightly, perhaps for comfort, but it wasn’t holding her down.  He was leaving the staying in place for this punishment up to her. Only two more, she told herself, willing herself to get through it.

            Crack! Anna moaned in pain, and it took a couple of seconds for her to catch her breath to count. “Seven,” she gasped.

            Crack! The last one was especially hard, and Anna screamed. “Eight!” As soon as the count was out of her mouth she collapsed against the car, resting her cheek against the cold metal, her whole body shaking. She was still sore from the spanking Jeremy had given her earlier in his bedroom – to feel his belt on top of that was torture.

            She lay there sobbing against the car while Jeremy put his belt back on, then he helped her up and hugged her in close to his chest. I know I'm breaking the rules here, and I'm sorry, but I just had to share my excitement with you all - next week it's my authorversary - it will be an entire year since Blushing Books made my dream come true and turned me into a published author!

Come on Star! Anna silently willed the horse. Too excited to even scream now, she jumped up and down on the spot, hands over her mouth, a bundle of jittery nerves.

            

Starlight started to fly. Encouraged by Josh, she started to really stretch out, her long strides literally eating up the ground beneath them as she raced for home.  Stretching out as far as she could, she started to streak for the finish line, accelerating even more as she drew alongside the leader; the favourite. For a few tense moments they raced neck and neck, both jockeys eyeballing each other, encouraging their mounts to go even faster, push even harder. And Star did. At Dead of Night: Red herrings meet red bottoms in this tale of detecting, discipline and life decisions.

Welcome back to my blog Bethany! Your new book looks great - and I've got lots of questions about it!

At Dead of Night is the title of your new book with Blushing Books. What can you tell us about it?

First up, it’s a detective story. There is a murder, there are lots of suspects, and Lucy, my PI, spends most of her working day trying to find out whodunit. But it’s also a domestic discipline story. Lucy has previously broken up with Noel because of a punishment spanking he gave her when she unnecessarily put her life at risk. The murder case brings Lucy back in contact with Noel, and she has to decide whether her love for him and her enjoyment of playful spankings is stronger than her dislike of punishment.

Where is it set?

It’s a contemporary story, set mostly in London, though Lucy does have to travel to Cornwall to see the scene of the crime and interview some of the suspects.

Do you read a lot of murder mysteries?

Yes! Mystery has been my favourite genre since I can remember. I read Enid Blyton and Nancy Drew as a kid, graduating to authors like Ruth Rendell, Sara Paretsky, Sue Grafton, Elizabeth George, and, more recently, Elly Griffiths. I enjoy mysteries on TV as well – Midsomer Murders is a big favourite.

Is At Dead of Night your first book?

It’s not my first published book (Freedom, an alternate Edwardian history novella, was published by Blushing Books in December), but it is the first book I wrote. When I first started writing it, I found the murder mystery plot came to me very quickly, as did the names and personalities of Lucy’s colleagues at the investigation agency. But I struggled with Lucy and Noel’s relationship – I wanted them to have split up and for Lucy to meet him again during the course of the investigation. I came up with all sorts of reasons for their break-up, but nothing worked. In the early draft, I’d included a scene where Noel gave Lucy a playful spanking, and I always thought of them as practising DD, but didn’t think any publisher would ever accept a storyline like that. When I discovered there were publishers who would, I made DD the reason for their break-up.

What is your next book about and when will it be released?

My next book is an anthology of short stories called A Cure for All Ills. The title story is about a woman with anorexia and a new boyfriend who believes loving discipline will help turn around her troubled relationship with food. The other stories are what I’d call ‘domestic dramas with discipline’. The book will be released on 23 February.

The first time Noel had slapped Lucy, she'd enjoyed it.

It had been a stinging slap on her thigh, delivered after she'd turned the cold tap on him when they were sharing a candlelit bath. She'd clambered out, but he'd remained in the bubbly bathwater, eyes closed, chillaxing. Shocked out of the tub by the cold blast of water, he'd grabbed her and whacked her. Then he'd turned off the tap, pulled the plug on the water, and declared that she was going across his knee.

"Bastard!" Half-annoyed and half-embarrassed, she slapped his arm.

"Stop that," he said, stern. "That's my job." He sat up, hauled her across his lap and gave her backside another six sharp smacks.
